Wheel loader, excavator, and dozer lined up in a contractor equipment yard at dawn

Buyer checklist

Ask the vendor to show one of your jobs.

Use the same job, crew change, and field update in every demonstration. Check what works, who can do it, and the complete price.

Checklist

The core questions to ask

Follow an assignment

Show who owns the task and which people and machines are on the job.

Switch a person between jobs

Show how time entries, assignments, and office review change.

Save without signal

Load a job, save a supported update offline, reconnect, and confirm it reached the office.

Confirm the accounting handoff

Demonstrate the exact production transfer you need. A planned integration is not an available workflow.

Evaluation lens

Leave with answers you can compare.

A feature list is not a demonstration. Use your own scenario and record what each vendor shows.

  • Which actions work for each role?
  • What is saved offline, and what needs connectivity?
  • Which records reach accounting today?
  • What is the total for your seats, modules, and setup?
  • Which promised workflows are still planned?

The details that matter

Ask for evidence you can take into the buying decision.

A feature list is a starting point. For each important workflow, leave the demonstration with an observable result and an answer about who can use it.

The changed-job record
Move one worker from Job A to Job B. Find both time segments, the assignment change, and the field note explaining what happened. Ask who can correct each record.
The remote-site record
Load the job, disconnect, save a supported update, reconnect, and find the same entry in the office. Include a failed update and its recovery, rather than only watching a connected demonstration.
The quantity and cost trail
Enter accepted and rejected tickets. Check the accepted total and its unit, then remove a required cost input. A trustworthy calculation should explain missing coverage rather than present a complete cost from partial inputs.
The written commercial fit
Keep the plan, included seat roles, extra people, modules, optional imports, and development dependencies in one quote. Mark any requirement that still needs a separate tool or a later release.
